PermaBank is a free/libre/opensource (FLO) application that facilitates sharing of resources between participants and, ultimately, will provide financial services software that align with permaculture principles.

The first release will enable individuals and groups to make wishes, give gifts and document sharing. The primary impetus behind this set of features is to enhance the effectiveness of the gifting culture. Once this basic functionality is released, we'll explore ways to incorporate alternative currencies into the software.

[edit] Development

An initial version of PermaBank was developed with Python/Django and is available under Version 3 of the GNU General Public License. However, Django development has been shelved and PermaBank is currently moving forward on the basis of Sharetribe.

See PermaBank Development.

[edit] Concepts & Resources

The basic ideas and framework for Permabank are available at PermaBank Concepts.

There are a number of gift exchange and related platforms which are comparable to the vision for at least the first version of Permabank. There are also a number of existing alternative currency systems, including timebanking, Bitcoin, and various local currencies. See PermaBank Resources.
