Notes from March 13 2013 Occupywallstreet.net notes – March 13, 2013 Updates from Thiago: 1. We’re figuring out our tagging situation. We can merge tags. We should decide which tags we want to use. Having a bazillion specific tags isn’t useful. a. To Do: Agree on Thematic and Article Tags, Consolidate them b. Let’s have a work session (SOON!) to do this. Kelly will start a proposal. c. Update Wiki 2. Search engine optimization a. We are adding meta tags b. Making summaries part of the meta tag c. Linking words to other articles bumps up SEO = good for visibility 3. Working on adding a search feature 4. Working on adding a related articles feature 5. Adding attribution line to the front page 6. To Do: a. Let’s send our emails to Thiago so that we he can send them to Dana to get us access to the analytics! b. Promote our articles on Reddit (Linnea) 7. Crediting translators a. Use the cite tag? Something about “rel”, Thiago’s not sure if it’s easy in Drupal-land. b. To Do: Have a formatting workshop with Pea 8. Future: let’s have an Occupy widget 9. What about events? a. To Do: Bring in featured events from NYCGA (curated by Pea) as a feed – Pea and Thiago will implement, Linnea will follow up. b. Events are currently hiding on the contribute page. 10. Potential issue: all the things on the site feed take people out of the website. 11. Video – having a video page is on the to do list after the first implementation of the changes we’re making. 12. Notes a. To Do: Linnea will post to wiki.occupy.net. and teach people who don’t know how to use it to use it. 13. How the site got deleted. a. It was accidentally deleted. The software it was running it was confusing and not clear about what deleting meant…very confusing. Anyway. 14. Backups – site is being moved to mayfirst (progressive tech collective). Andrew Mallis, Joel Moore, Pea, Thiago are admins on site. 15. Clarifying events and research articles – follow up conversation from last week. a. Some felt like Editing process was unpleasant/difficult. b. Which events get featured? i. NYCGA featured events 1. Maybe we have a disclaimer? ii. PR Team’s criteria 1. Critical mass of people involved, deal with economic injustice or the commons, not endorsing political candidates, clear connection to Occupy c. TO DO: Linnea will write a draft (and solicit feedback from others) about events policy. d. What’s our policy regarding research articles? i. Should link economic injustice and Occupy. ii. Some think a balance of content…mix of authors is important. iii. Should be understandable. iv. Should we publish research papers? v. Long discussion on footnotes. There are cool tech things that could be done eventually. vi. Articles could have links and attachments on the side if it were necessary. vii. Maybe its not that big a problem. viii. For now we will keep footnotes. Try not to overdo it. 16. TO DO: Review wiki and make sure its up to date. 17. TO DO: change learn, contribute pages – Thiago get us access! 18. TO DO: Write a mission statement. 19. WORK PARTY – SUNDAY APRIL 7TH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 20. Transparency – editor’s, developers also on About Page 21. Pantheon gave us hosting for free. When we move to may first would be under interrocc. Something about membership. We can fundraise or pass the hat. 22. Twitter: OccupyInfo – R and L have been updating. We’re going to link to OccupyInfo. 23. We can now post to the Occupy Wall Street Facebook page! a. Mayble don’t post things that aren’t original. b. We will link to this page.
